Since the time of our Incorporation in May, 2006, Berkshire Pilots Association has been working to bring back the list of services once provided at the North Adams Airport prior to the closing of Esposito Flying Service. The Harriman-West Airport has always had a source of flight instruction, scenic flights, and charter services available for the northern Berkshire community which it serves. The closing of the FBO, combined with rising costs of fuel, insurance and maintenance has affected the local flying community as well. Changing this trend has been the goal of BPA for almost two years now.
Our first improvement was the installation of a self-service avgas facility. The new 24-hr setup has been a reliable source of inexpensive fuel for the local tenants. Combined with monthly summer cookouts, it has served to bring many transient visitors to our airport, greatly increasing activity.
Now, after a winter of revitalizing the former "Esposito Flying Service" building, the new Shamrock Aviation is almost up to full speed. Three aircraft are available for rental and scenic flights with the flight school planned to start in mid May. The Airport Manager's office and the headquarters of BPA will remain in the FBO.
We will continue to work toward improving our airport in 2008 with multiple projects in our sights. If you have an idea for improvements you would like to see or if you are interested in volunteering at Harriman-West Airport please contact us. Make sure to ask to be added to our email list to receive updates to our scheduled events.
